 The Fig Tree was the former home of the Henshaw family and the last of the private dwellings in La Villita.
The home was purchased by the Phelps Family in December of 1970 for their private residence. However, much to their surprise, the old home was cherished by almost everyone who entered it. Prompted by this, the family, in April of 1971, voted to share it with all, and thus the Fig Tree Restaurant was born.

 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phelps opened the Fig Tree Restaurant on March 17, 1971.
The Phelps Family has continuously operated the restaurant, always striving for the highest quality in food and in service. It is a Phelps tradition to serve only the best and if the best is not available, it will not be offered. |
